This flat server in the Aesthetic Movement Style was made by Gorham, Circa 1880.  Its handle is in the "King's I" pattern dated 1878.  Its matte-finish blade is engraved with Japanesque geometric and naturalistic motifs, including a mon-like form in the upper right and a butterfly on a foliate branch on the lower left.  The leather case is lined in its original blue silk.  Condition of the server is pristine; condition of the case is excellent, with some wear visible to leather and silk lining.  The underside stem is marked with the Gorham logo marks and "STERLING/ PAT. 78." The box measures 2 1/8 inches in height, 12 inches in length, and 5 1/4 inches in depth.  The server is 10 1/4 inches long.  Please click on more images for detailed object photographs.

Gorham's "Lady's Hand" pattern serving pieces have become increasingly hard to find.  This ladle has an ornately pierced bowl gilded on the front and back.  It measures 8 7/8 inches, and the back of the stem is marked with the Gorham logo marks, "PATENT 1868/ STERLING/ M.W. GALT & BROS."  The front of the applied cartouche at the upper stem is monogrammed "A.M.L.N./ Oct. 12 1868" in script.  The back has a later monogram that reads "S/ 1940."

This 10 1/2" berry spoon in Gorham's famous "Morning Glory" pattern has a gilded bowl engraved with floral and foliate decoration at its outer, upper edges. The back of the bowl is marked STERLING and with the lion, anchor, G logo mark for the Gorham Company. A very small script "S.S.S." monogram appears on the back outer edge of the bowl above the maker's marks.

This sugar spoon is in Gorham's "Eglantine" pattern, made circa 1870.  It measures 6 1/2 inches in length and has gilding on front and back of the bowl.  The back of the stem is marked with the Gorham logo marks and "STERLING."  Condition is pristine, with crisp detail to the pattern on the stem and the repousse strawberries in the gilded bowl.  Please see more images for detailed object photographs.

The citrus spoons in this set of six made by Gorham have stems formed as three-dimensional citrus branches, with figural gilded citrus appearing at the upper stem.  The bowl is formed as a leaf and is gilded front and back.  Each measures 5 5/8 inches and is marked with the Gorham logo marks, "STERLING" and "38."  The back of the bowl is monogrammed "MR" in ornate, intertwined script.

This rare pattern has been featured recently in Silver magazine. The Japanesque taste was very important in developing this pattern. The crumb knife measures 12 5/8 inches and is marked with the Gorham logo marks and "STERLING" on the back of the stem. The front of the stem is decorated with a large catfish, several smaller fishes, a swirling wave and seaweed pattern. The back stem is decorated with an applied crab. The blade has an ornately engraved bird resting on a curving branch. Condition is excellent.

A pair of tongs in the Aesthetic style made by Gorham, circa 1890. These tongs are identified in the 1888 Gorham catalogue as olive tongs. The Gorham logo is poorly struck.
