This pie knife was made by the Gorham Company for Tiffany & Company, and it bears both the Gorham Lion, Anchor, G logo mark, as well as TIFFANY & CO./ STERLING on the center back of its stem. Behind the medallion is an engraved crest and motto of the Osborn family, "Quantum in Rebus Inane" (What vanity in human affairs). An engraved crest and motto appear uncommonly on American silver, and this, combined with the fact that it was made by Gorham for Tiffany & Company, make this serving piece exceptionally rare.
