This flat server in the Aesthetic Movement Style was made by Gorham, Circa 1880.  Its handle is in the "King's I" pattern dated 1878.  Its matte-finish blade is engraved with Japanesque geometric and naturalistic motifs, including a mon-like form in the upper right and a butterfly on a foliate branch on the lower left.  The leather case is lined in its original blue silk.  Condition of the server is pristine; condition of the case is excellent, with some wear visible to leather and silk lining.  The underside stem is marked with the Gorham logo marks and "STERLING/ PAT. 78." The box measures 2 1/8 inches in height, 12 inches in length, and 5 1/4 inches in depth.  The server is 10 1/4 inches long.  Please click on more images for detailed object photographs.
