Finely Detailed Micro Beaded Handbag or Purse
A very finely detailed micro beaded handbag or purse with a 14 karat gold handle, dated to the first quarter of the 20th century.
The gold handle is hand engraved on both sides with garlands suspended from ribbons against a lined background. The interior of the handle is stamped 14K and additionally engraved with the name of the original owner and the city Battle Creek, Mich. The interior of the purse is lined with tan faille which is in brilliant condition aside from one small wear near the joint of one of the clasps.
As most of these originally had a fringe, this one may also have had one but I see no sign of it here. It retains a little coin purse and a faille covered mirror which is attached to the frame.
This is the largest of this type of bag I have seen.
Width of handle: 9 3/8 inches
Depth of handle on the side is: 2 1/2 inches
From the top of the closure to the bottom of bag is 9 3/4 inches
9 1/2 inches wide
